This weekend, the Rising Tide movement is organising a peaceful People's Blockade of Newcastle Coal Port just two hours north of Sydney in NSW. Newcastle coal port is the largest in the world. And it's Australia's single largest source of global emissions.
Thousands of people are coming together to blockade ships for 30 hours. I'm originally from Newcastle and will be there with my family. I'd like to invite you too.
I respect and admire Rising Tide. They're are a peaceful community-based mob and have a police permit to run the blockade on 25 and 26 November. It's going to be a family-friendly event with lots of entertainment and fun. There will even be a climate action dog event on the Sunday. My dog Fred will be there for that.
Please come. We can help Rising Tide line the shore of the harbour. And for those who are a little gamer, paddle out on a kayaks and boogie boards to block the middle of the harbour.
Register here to help Rising Tide with its planning. But most importantly, even if you don't register, please come. Let's tell the world Australians say "No" to coal.
