#eBike4Australia: Farewell from Cottesloe

Updated: Aug 12

Wow, if every day of my #eBike4Australia journey is like this, I’ll be tired but very happy when I get back to Australia’s East Coast.

After I finishing a meat pie for breakfast at the Cottesloe General Store, I met up with Independent MP Kate Chaney who came down to Cottesloe Beach after her morning school drop to wave me off. Kate suggested we take my bike down to wet its wheels in the Indian Ocean! We didn’t get too wet. But on a serious note, can I just say thank goodness that Australia has MPs like Kate who put our kids and country above personal and political party interests. Allegra Spender has agreed to meet me when I get to Bondi where I can get my bikes wheels wet in the Pacific Ocean.

Diane - who I’d never met before today - came almost 100km from Pinjarra to escort me out of Perth. She cycles with the Pinjarra RSL. Having grown up in the Bush and now living in the Bush Capital of Canberra, I really appreciated having someone to help me get out of the Big Smoke. Diane led me all the way to Jarrahdale in the hills about 80 Southeast of Perth, where I’m staying tonight in Jennifer and Alica’ rustic shed - I found them on AirBnB. I plan to duck down to the Jarrahdale Tavern for a well earned schnitzel.

Huge thanks to everyone who has already donated to my Go Fund Me campaign which aims to help Bush communities to access renewable energy. Today I raised over $3,000. But there’s so much to do, so please donate if you can and ask your friends and family too.

Other highlights today included:

  • Seeing three endangered Carnaby’s Cockatoos in Murdoch near the Fiona Stanley Hospital and six Pied Oyster Catchers on the Beach next to Indiana at Cottesloe; and

  • a tradie who waited in his Toyota Hilux at the top of the Perth Hills to give Diane and me a friendly toot and wave of congratulations for making it.

Tomorrow I head to the Dryandra Woodlands to spend an afternoon numbating with the Numbat Taskforce and to meet with the local Lions Club which has a renewable energy project for me to include in my fund raising campaign. If you haven’t made a contribution yet, please do. And please, follow my blog if you’re not already.
